Food Technology KS4

In both years 10 and 11 lessons will include practical and theory work. Students are required to complete a controlled assessment, designing and making a quality product to meet a design brief. A 40-50-page portfolio including research and evaluation accompanies this.

Throughout the two years pupils will learn:

To design, prepare and make complicated food products, covering special dietary needs and selecting ingredients for their nutritional characteristics.

To shape ingredients and put together food components to make products.

To create plans for designing and making recipes to fit a design brief.

To use appropriate tools, techniques and materials and learn a range of techniques and methods.

To join and combine ingredients accurately to achieve results.

To understand the importance of healthy eating when designing.

Students will complete a comprehensive controlled assessment in which they will research, evaluate, design and make their own products. Coursework and practical making skills will contribute to 60% of your GCSE.

At the end of the 2 years pupils a required to complete an exam, testing knowledge and understanding of the theory behind Food Technology.
